Information

A coastal pelagic species occurring from the surface to about 250 or 300 m depth. Schooling by size is well developed and initiates at approximately 3 cm. Feeds at night close to the surface on copepods and other crustaceans, fishes and squids.In Commercially cultured in Japan. Used in Chinese medicine.

Localization

Cosmopolitan, inhabiting the warm and temperate transition waters of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific oceans and adjacent seas.
